Installation instructions
Start SUSE Linux.
In a terminal window, use the su (switch user) command to obtain root privileges.
Copy the RPM file to the hard drive, for example, /home/drivers directory.
Change directory to the location where you saved the file.
In a terminal window, type rpm -ihv [Package Name] to install the modem driver.Example: ex. rpm -ihv l79m05ww.rpm
Go to K Menu > Logout, and select Restart Computer.
Important:Modem and SPDIF can not be used at the same time. If you want to use the SPDIF functionalities, please uninstall the modem driver.

Determining which version is installed
In a terminal window, type rpm -qa hsfmodem* to display the current version of modem driver installed in the system.
Dial-up connection using KNetworkManager
How to configure modem for ISP connection.
Click KnetworkManager in the System Tray.
Select Dial-Up Connections, then select Configure Dial-Up Connections. A warning message will appear. Click OK.
Click Add to add new modem device and start configuration.
In the Modem Parameters window, enter '/dev/modem' in the Modem Device field, Click Next button.
In the Select Internet Service Provider (ISP) window, select Custom Providers and click Next.
In the Provider Parameters window, enter Provider Name, Phone Number User Name. Uncheck "Always Ask for Password" field and enter the Password. Click Next.
In the Connection Parameters window, check Stupid Mode option. Click Next.
Click Finish to save the configuration. When asked to configure mail, click No
How to make an ISP connection
Click KnetworkManager in the System Tray.
Select Dial-Up Connections, and click the modem connection you want to establish.
How to disconnect ISP connection
Click KnetworkManager in the System Tray.
Select Dial-Up Connections, and click the modem connection that starts with "Hang up".
How to check for ISP logs
Go to /var/log/smppd.
Open ifcfg-modemX.log.

Sending and receiving fax using Hylafax
How to install Hylafax
Go to K Menu , select System, and select YaST.
Enter Administrator(root) password.
Click Software Management in the Software category.
Select Search in the Filter field.
Search and check Hylafax, and click Accept.
Follow the instructions.
How to configure Hylafax
In a terminal window, use the su (switch user) command to obtain root privileges.
Type /usr/sbin/faxsetup.
You will be asked whether to update /var/spool/hylafax/status/any.info. Enter yes.
Supply the items asked. Use the defaults when you are not sure of the settings.
You will be asked to restart the HylaFAX server processes. Enter yes.
You will be asked to run faxaddmodem to configure a modem. Enter yes.
Enter modem as serial port.
Suppy the items asked. Make sure that the phone number of fax modem is correct. You can specify a fax modem name as local identification string. Use the default values when you are not sure of the settings.
You will be asked if the configuration is ok, answer yes.
You will be asked what class the modem be configured. Enter 1.
You will be asked if the modem configuration parameters are ok. Enter yes.
You will be asked if the non-default schedule parameters are ok. Enter yes.
You will be asked to run faxaddmodem again. Enter no.
You will be asked whether to run faxmodem. Enter yes.
Open /etc/inittab, and add this line in the file:mo:35:respawn:/usr/lib/fax/faxgetty /dev/modem
Enter "init q" to reload the inittab.
Lastly, enable the Hylafax on the Runlevel to get the service started during bootup.
Select YaST.
Select System on the left side of the window.
Select System Services (Runlevel).
Select hylafax on the services listed.
Click Enable.
Click Finish.
How to configure KdeprintFax to send faxes
Select the K Menu, select Tools, select Printing, then select KdeprintFax.
Click Settings, and select Configure KdeprintFax.
Select Personal on the left side of the window.
Enter Name, Company, and Fax Number.
Select System on the left side of the window.
Select HylaFax as Fax System.
In the Command field, add this option, '%page_s' between '%res' and '%time_a'
Click OK.
How to send faxes
Open the KdeprintFax application.
Add a file to send. Select File, then select Add File.
Browse and select a file to send, then click Open.
Add a fax recipient. Select Fax, then select New Fax Recipient.
Enter the fax number, name, and enterprise of the recipient. Click OK.
Send the file. Select Fax, then select Send Fax.
How to view a received fax
Select the K Menu, run command.
Enter kfax in the command field.
In the KFax window, select File, then select Open.
Browse and select the fax you want to view, then click Open.
How to check for fax logs
KdeprintFax creates its own logs. You can see the logs on Fax menu. View Log, or simply click the View Log icon found in the toolbar.
For detailed log files, open /var/spool/fax/log. A log is created under this folder when sending or receiving is done. You can check the logs if sending/ receiving is successful or not.
For pending documents not yet sent, open /var/spool/fax/sendq.
Region Setting
How to change region setting
Before changing the setting, close Kmix located in the panel.
In a terminal window, use the su (switch user) command to obtain root privileges.
Type hsfconfig.
A warning message will appear, click Yes.
Enter the region/country name for modem unit. For example: JAPAN
To check for the current region setting
In a terminal window, type minicom.
Enter ati9 to check for the current region setting.
Enter Ctrl+A and Z, and enter X to exit minicom.

INSTALL
1. Start SUSE Linux.
2. In a terminal window, use the su (switch user)
command to obtain
root privileges.
